Grasses are an essential part of a sub tropical garden, either for their flowers or for their architectural foliage. We grow a large selection of species and varieties from small hummocks to impressive tall specimens. Many are evergreen giving all year colour and interest or give delicate flowers to contrast with bold foliage plants.

Arundo donax  
 A very striking bamboo like grass with tall stems of large blue green leaves. Needs a sunny position with plenty of moisture in summer and protection from cold winds. Very subtropical. Height : 2-3m.

Arundo donax 'Variegata'  
 Beautiful variegated form with the leaves striped in green and white, often flushed with pink on the new shoots. Needs some protection in the winter in cold areas. Height : 2m.

Chondropetalum tectorum  
 A very unusual member of the Restio family from South Africa, looking like a cross between a grass and a reed. It makes highly ornamental tall clumps with slender flower spikes in late summer and autumn. Grow in a moist soil in sun. Height : 1-2m.

Elegia capensis  
 A stunning and fast growing Restio from South Africa. The stems raech 2m. in height with slender branches arranged in whorls. Excellent for cut foliage and looks great planted near water. Prefers moisture in summer and full sun. Height : 2m.
